Discussion for Monday 14th August at 6.30pm led by Francis Elliot Wright

GIVING TO THE CHAPEL
IN GIVING WE RECEIVE...?
On 19th August we will be considering what the Bible has to say about our responsibilities towards the financial and practical needs of our congregation.
Unitarians are not alone among denominations in being rather reticent when it comes to talking about giving money to the chapel/congregation. Why is this and what does the Bible have to say on the matter?
In the New Testament, Jesus and Paul both talked about giving.
In the Hebrew Bible, there are many narratives and commands around the need to contribute. Not just to the building of the Temple but also to its restoration (Ezra, Nehemiah, Amos etc.)
There are many admonitions about failure to adequately support the work of religious leaders/servants as well as failure to contribute funds and volunteer time and energy to rebuilding work.
There are also statements and examples which suggest that we gain spiritually through giving. Giving money and volunteering time and work is a religious duty and a spiritual act - and yet we're very reluctant to address this.
Do any Unitarians tithe? Should they? Should we talk about money more, or is it right that we don't say that much about it?
Bring verses, bring ideas and opinions, and please be prepared to listen to other peoples' verses, ideas and opinions. See you on Monday at 6.30pm. Link to follow in the comments.

friend, Jesus is not the 2nd person of a triune god, but He is Almighty God Himself. For that which is begotten of the SPIRIT (father) is that same SPIRIT (son) and not a separate entity John 3.6
ReplyDeletefather/son is a SPIRITUAL constellation of ONE ALMIGHTY GOD being in heaven and on earth at the same time reconciling the world back to Himself. 2 Sam 7 14…
It is vital that you believe in the LOVE of God His SELF sacrifice, not a selfish sacrifice of a literal father sending his literal son to be sacrificed.
May the Everlasting Father Jesus bless you
